Friday, Friday, Friday! Yep, that’s all I’ve got for an opening.
I should warn those with delicate sensibilities that this post may contain more than a few curse words. Some fictional, some from outside my country, and some that are just too perfect to say when the world is against you. So without further ado…my favorite words:
Whippersnapper: (noun – a young and inexperienced person considered to be presumptuous or overconfident) As an old, bitter lady of my 30s, I tend to use this word quite often, though since I’m a Hufflepuff I’m usually using the word in my head instead of out loud.
Petrichor: (noun – a pleasant smell that frequently accompanies the first rain after a long period of warm, dry weather) Basically the smell of fresh rain on dirt and just saying the word makes me smile thinking of that glorious smell.
Ampersand: (noun – the sign & ) Not only do I find ampersands aesthetically pleasing, but I love saying their name!
The following string of curse words that I use in times of great distress and/or annoyance: Fuck, wank, bugger, shitting, arse, head and hole.
Ephemeral: (adjective – lasting for a very short time) This is one of those words that is pleasant to say, but also evokes feelings (both good and bad).
Bollocks: (noun/slang – 1. the testicles 2. used to express contempt, annoyance, or defiance) There is nothing more satisfying to say when full of contempt, annoyance, or defiance. Or just when you are mildly inconvenienced. It’s a very versatile expletive.
Frak: (verb/slang – fictional version of “fuck” first used in the 1978-Battlestar Galactica television series) Favorite word ever. It lets me curse without non geeky people realizing that I’m cursing. I oddly enough couldn’t find a good gif of someone saying frak so please enjoy this gif of Kara “Starbuck” Trace aka my favorite Battlestar Galactica character.
